Obituary for Ximin Li

Ximin Li of Winchester, MA passed away peacefully at 80 years old in his home surrounded by his family on April 25, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife TianQiong Yang. He leaves behind his loving daughters Qi Li, Yanhua Li, and Wei Li and their children Justin Lee, Michael Lee, Keyi Liu, Isabella Lee and Sophia Lee. He is survived by his brother Jinmin Li and his sister JinYi Li.

Ximin was born into a privileged family of scholars in 1943 in Sichuan, China. His family’s fate was forever changed when the Communist Party took control during the 1949 Chinese Civil War. Banished from any higher education opportunities, he was sent to be a coal miner in a small town in Sichuan where he raised his family and spent most of his adult life. He moved to Winchester with his late wife 15 years ago to be with his family. He was a devoted family man with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a keen interest in global affairs.

His resolve to rebuild the family legacy has been instilled in his children. He worked various jobs including coal mining, plumbing, clerical work, and later, finance, to provide for his family. Through a lifetime of learning and self-motivation, was able to raise three daughters who have enjoyed a greater number of opportunities than he did, and who themselves have had children who have been able to pursue their passions in life.

He loved to spend time playing ping pong with his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and playing chess. He especially loved to eat, drink, and discuss the finer points of Chinese politics.

Visitation will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St., WINCHESTER, on Friday, April 28th from 9:30-11 am. Followed by a private interment at Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
