Obituary for William Maggio Jr.

On May 29, 1957 William (Billy) Maggio Jr. was born in a blaze of glory in Winchester, MA to Lorraine “Ginger” (Frongillo) and the late William G. Maggio; and the legend began. Billy wasn’t the life of the party, he was the party; anytime you were with him, he could captivate you with a few epic stories. He would guarantee you, your workout was all wrong, while trying to get you to play golf the next day or showing you the proper way to throw a right hook. Billy always knew a guy that could help you with that, and his meatballs were legendary, ask anyone who had them. He could invent a game with items in the room, and whatever you do, don’t ask him to sing the alphabet song, that would be entertaining! He would bet you at least 7 times on any given evening for any subject that he was right. But no matter what, when you were with Billy, if you were willing, you would find yourself on an impromptu adventure that became his next epic story.
We could follow the typical template and regal you with tales of his accomplishments (including the ball he hit, that still hasn’t come down or the ‘62 French Olympics where he won a gold medal for pizza cooking) and list his professions; but Billy never fit the template. He took the template, parleyed it into winning a trifecta, came up with aces in the hole…then broke it.
On June 16, 2021, Billy moved on to his next adventure. He left behind his coconspirator and wife, of 28 years Claudell Greear-Maggio, of California formerly of Woburn. He will be greatly missed by his adoring children; Michael Maggio of Woburn, Cody Maggio and his wife Kristin of New Hampshire, Shawna Hemenway and her husband Daniel of Lynn, and Madrina Moore and Gregory Patino of San Bernardino. Cherished grandfather of Sean Michael and Owen Hemenway, and Logan Maggio. Dear brother of Richard, Bobby, and Wayne Maggio. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Saturday, June 26th from 3-4:30pm. Followed by a Celebration of Life at the funeral home at 4:30pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations in Billy’s memory may be made to The Myositis Association at www.myositis.org.
