Richard (Dick) Anthony Hussey passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Lahey Hospital, Burlington. Born in Boston on January 8, 1933, Dick attended Brighton High school where he excelled at baseball and football. After graduation, Dick enlisted in the Navy, where he served on the Battleship New Jersey for several years. Soon after leaving the Navy, he married the girl next store and they settled down in Watertown and raised their family there. During those years he enjoyed coaching both of his sons in Little League baseball and was so proud of his team winning the town championship several times.
Until retiring in 1988, Dick was happily employed for many years as the Director of Project Engineering at Gillette Corporation in South Boston. He made many good friends there and spent many a happy Saturday golfing with his buddies. He and his friends began a tradition of running a golf weekend in late August, which his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons continue to attend.
Being a father and grandfather were two of the joys of Dick’s life. He loved spending time with his family, taking his kids out to eat and sneaking his grandchildren sticks of gum or candy. He truly enjoyed being a grandfather and made up funny, quirky songs which he would sing to his grandchildren when they were babies.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth, and his children, Kathryn Turmel and her husband Richard, Richard Hussey and his wife Emily, Robert Hussey and his wife Christine, and Lisa Scali and her husband Joseph. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Matthew, Christopher, Samantha, Joseph, John, Ryan, Kayla, Robert, Chloe and Sydney. Dick is also survived by his siblings Janet Kelleher (and her late husband John) of Nashua, New Hampshire, Mary Claire Scherber (and her late husband James) of Stoughton, William Hussey and his wife Deborah Kuhlman-Hussey of Marion, James Hussey and his wife Linda Romano of Sandwich, John Hussey and his wife Susan Hussey of Yarmouth and Norwood and many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his brothers Robert Hussey and Brian Hussey.
Due to Covid restrictions and wanting to keep people safe, a funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 10th for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
