Obituary for Norbert F "Nobby" Mandeville

Norbert Forest “Nobby” Mandeville of Winchester, MA, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020 at the age of 91. He was born in New London, Connecticut on December 3, 1928.

He grew up in Winchester where he graduated from the Winchester High School class of 1946. He met his wife, Grace Marie “Rhea” Hennelly In the south end of Woburn. The two were blessed with years of love and adventure together, raising five children and ultimately celebrating 66 years of marriage.

Nobby served in the army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division, where he earned the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars and the United Nations Service Medal. On September 7, 2017, he was awarded the “Ambassador for Peace Medal” from the Republic of Korea.

Nobby worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad and Amtrak as a locomotive engineer for 41 years. Upon his retirement, he worked part-time at Rite Aid for 18 years.

Nobby had a variety of interests over the years. He had a passion for any Boston team and could oftentimes be found out on the sun porch, glued to the TV, giving commentary. Other times he’d be “piddling” in the yard or garage. Never one to sit idle, Nobby always had a project in the works, whether it was landscaping or something as small as reorganizing the screw jars on his workbench. He also was blessed with a great voice, and if one was lucky, they may have caught him crooning a Pasty Cline or Perry Como tune. His greatest passion though, was his dogs. Nobby’s Boston Terriers were the love of his life. From raising litters to spoiling the ones that he kept, he always had a special place in his heart for his four-legged family members. He was loyal to them, and they to him.

Nobby was a loving father to Beth McCabe (Brian) of Ogunquit, ME; Brian Mandeville of Woburn, MA; Michele Siegfriedt of Westford, MA; Carolyn Micciche (Jeff) of Louisville, KY; Gwen Jefferson (Bobby) of Arlington, MA. Devoted “Pa” and Grandfather to Barry, Kate, Emily, Drew, Ross, Brenna, Rachel, Jess, Danny, Jake, Ryan and Kaylee. Dear brother to Bruce Mandeville of Rochester, NH and Sandra Crawford of Tampa, FL and to the late Nola Orlandella, Norma Moriarity and Donald Mandeville and his many loving nieces and nephews.

Nobby’s family meant the world to him and he will be greatly missed. We are thankful though, for the years and stories he shared with us, as well as the wonderful memories he left behind.

Family and Friends are invited to attend; masks must be worn at all times and social distancing must be observed. Visiting hours be held on Monday, September 28, at Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main Street, Winchester, MA from 10:30 to 12:00, A burial service with Military Honors to follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
