Obituary for Marilyn E Marnell (Flanagan)

Marnell, Marilyn E., a resident of Winchester for 60 years, passed away suddenly on May 29, 2021, at age 85. She was born in Somerville, MA as the youngest of three children to William J. and Gladys (Kinread) Flanagan. She was the beloved wife of the late James L. Marnell.

Marilyn leaves a legacy of 85 years lived with only love, kindness and gentleness to everyone she knew or encountered. The first word many use to describe her is as a “saint.” Her first thoughts were always for others. She took great joy in the happiness of the people she loved and knew, and felt deep compassion for anyone who was suffering. In her 85 years, she did not make a single unkind remark or take a single unkind action. For 22 years, she was blessed with the happiness of a loving marriage to Jim, and their wonderful companionship. She lived a life of devotion to her extended family, friends and neighbors, her First Baptist Church community of 60 years, her volunteer activities, such as many years delivering food for Meals on Wheels, even when she herself was elderly, and her beloved Metropolitan Button Club. Above all, she revered the memory of her parents, and anything that was connected to them. She was the heart and center of her extended family and leaves an unfillable void.

She was a loving and devoted mother to Robyn March (Charles) of Falmouth ME, William German of Bakersfield CA, and Heidi Harding (William) of Arlington, stepmother to James Marnell, Jr. of Cape Coral, Fl, Stephen Marnell of Cape Coral, Fl, Mary Lynne Marnell (William Skulski) of Kennebunk ME and Michael Marnell (Brenda Goodreau) of Millbury, grandmother of Andrew March, Colin March (Roberta), Kristin Savino, Andrea Savino, Cody (Meaghan), Danny and Allison Marnell, Timothy (Kara), Sean and Moira O’Sullivan and Trout, Holden and Brown Marnell, great-grandmother of 12, and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved aunt, Ruth Kinread Lewis of London, Ontario, and her extended Kinread family in Canada. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Anne Tuff, brother William Flanagan, stepson Warren Marnell, niece Megan Shapiro and nephew Daniel Flanagan.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on June 11, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, 90 Mt. Vernon St., Winchester, MA with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. A private family Burial will take place at Puritan Lawn Cemetery.
