My thoughts go out to the entire Abate family. I'll always remember Dr. A. He had a heart of gold - I remember him making a house-call once when my mom though I broke a toe. I'm sure he had already seen 100 patients that day and probably wanted nothing more than to go home and relax, but there he was in our kitchen looking at the toe of some kid that was too dumb to avoid a tree while playing touch football. He was a classic example of the best of his generation, low key and leading by example. Stay well my friends.

With fondest memories I recall Joe over the years both at Mass Orthopaedic Association and in the greater medical community.
He was a warm individual with a strong devotion to his patients and community. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.

The MA orthopaedic community extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Abate. Dr. Abate shared countless hours with the MOA as a Board member for over 25 years and was honored in 2017 with the MA Orthopaedic Association's highest award, Orthopaedist of the Year. It was a pleasure to know him and work with him. For 26 years, Dr. Abate served on the MOA Board and as President of the MOA from 1996-1997, until his retirement from the Board in 2016. In 2017, Dr. Abate was honored as the MOA Orthopaedist of the Year.

The MOA was fortunate to have his leadership and commitment to his peers and patients.
