Jonathan G. Ripley of Winchester passed away peacefully at home with his family on September 26, 2023 at the age of 74, from cancer. Beloved partner of Hillary Turkewitz for over fifty years. Loving and proud father of Rebecca, Josh and Jared Turkewitz. Affectionate cat dad to Misty and Rocky. Caring and esteemed uncle of multiple nieces and nephews.
Jon grew up on Staten Island with his parents Bernadine and Joseph Ripley. He is predeceased by his siblings Nancy Rost, Joseph Ripley Jr., and Jim Ripley. He was a professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at
Wentworth Institute of Technology for over forty years, teaching English and Philosophy. He was adored by students and colleagues, and was named Professor Emeritus. He is the co-author of the textbooks Writing by Design, and communicating for Business Professionals. He recently completed a memoir entitled, Another Unique American Life: A Biography of Joseph Marion Ripley (1896-1978). He was a supportive and devoted friend, avid golfer, taker of long walks,
gelato lover, cat aficionado, and lifelong scholar. He brought kindness, humor, patience, and empathy to all his interactions and influenced countless lives. He lived with integrity, curiosity, and gentleness. It’s hard to imagine a man more admired by students, colleagues, friends, and family. A celebration of life will be held at Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester (82 Ridge Street) on Sunday, October 8 th , from 12 – 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jon’s honor may be made to the charity of your choice, as he chose to support a wide range of organizations with humanitarian, environmental and social justice missions.
