Obituary for John F Davis

Davis, John F. Jr. Age 98, died peacefully at his home in Winchester on December 30, 2022. A son of the late John F. and Nellie Davis he was born on November 12, 1924. He grew up in Cambridge, MA and attended the Cambridge School in nearby Weston.
He entered the Jewelry and Silversmithing Department at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1946. He received the Boit Prize in 1949 and, the following year, the Special Gem prize, in which a precious stone is awarded to the winner. He also received a traveling fellowship in 1949, which he used to go to Denmark, Germany and England. Even before graduation he received prestigious commissions including a baptismal bowl, a ciborium, a pair of altar cruets and a chalice given to Trinity Church, Boston, in memory of its rector Dr. Theodore P. Ferris.
After graduation he moved to Philadelphia to continue his work. He was a proud and active member at Saint Marks Church for many years. He lived a full and rich life and will be missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his niece Susan Malloy of Winchester; nephew Frank Davis and wife Kathleen of Winchester; great-niece Caitlin Murphy and husband John of Westwood; great-niece Maureen Davis of San Francisco; and great-great niece Millie Murphy of Westwood.
