Obituary for James H Messenger

James Henry Messenger, Jr., 76, of Sanibel Island, Florida passed away on September 7th, 2022 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts after a heroic battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Jim was born in Paterson, New Jersey on April 25, 1947, son of Anna and James Messenger. He spent his youth in Goshen, NY playing basketball and graduating from Goshen High School in 1965. There he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Fleming - more on this love story a bit later. Jim attended and graduated from University of Rhode Island, later on receiving
his MBA from University of CT.

Jim started his career as a CPA with Arthur Young, continuing to achieve success in New York City and Boston - ultimately landing at Fidelity Investments.

Jim met the love of his his life, Carol, at the age of 14 - the two were married on September 4, 1971 at Church of the St. John in Goshen, NY. They raised two outrageously fabulous children, Jay and Liza, in Dover, MA.

Upon retirement, Jim and Carol loved splitting their time between the mountains of Utah, the beaches of Sanibel and their beloved lakeside home in New Hampshire. Jim was never happier than when he was with his family - on the slopes with everyone, playing hoops with his grandsons, reading in the hammock with his granddaughters, teaching the kids how to drive the golf cart, or cruising down the winding roads of New England searching for the next best hot dog stand with Carol. Jim had a deep love for vintage cars - and could be found tinkering in the garage or speeding down the track at Limerock. Go Papa!

Carol and Jim’s love story is sixty years plus strong, and will endure til the end of time....

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Jay Messenger; daughter and son in law, Liza and Peter
Kugeler and grandchildren, Benjamin and William Kugeler & Grace and Lucy Messenger
