Kollias, Francine passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on October 12, 2023 after a courageous six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 71. Francine was the daughter of the late Demeter J. (Jim) Kollias and Kiki (Flamburis) Kollias, formerly of Belmont, and the sister of the late John D. Kollias, formerly of North Andover. She is survived by her beloved partner of 44 years, Robert (Bobby) Menucci of Andover, a small number of relatives and many friends.
Francine was raised in Belmont and attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she majored in Spanish and studied French. Following graduation in 1972, Francine worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration for 42 years, retiring in 2014. Thereafter and until recently she worked part-time for the Middlesex County Retirement Board and was a much sought-after speaker on retirement issues at universities and other large organizations throughout the region.
Like her father before her, Francine was for many years the president of the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, where she worked to strengthen the board of directors and the church’s finances. Francine was proud of her Greek heritage and famous for her Greek cooking, including many recipes that had been handed down through her mother from her maternal grandfather, a professional cook.
Francine loved to entertain in her Andover home, where Francine’s cooking and Bobby’s wine cellar produced many memorable meals and parties. Francine was diminutive in stature but had an outsized personality and was beloved for her generosity of spirit. As one of her friends once remarked, Francine brought out the best in people. Her concern for the well-being of others and her ability to make you feel that all her attention was devoted to you were legendary.
In addition to her passion for food and cooking, Francine’s interests included fashion and travel. In recent years, Francine and Bobby traveled to California and Oregon, and with Francine’s cousin, James C. (Jim) Kaddaras of Somerville, to Italy and France to conduct wine tastings and enjoy fine dining. One notable visit was to the caves of Veuve Clicquot, Francine’s favorite champagne in Reims France.
