Fran was the first person to welcome me to the neighborhood in 1972, pregnant with my third child. She immediately "adopted" our family, so much so that as our son John mentioned in his comments, he would head over to her house where he knew he would be regaled with milk and cookies - the one time we didn't see him go was fraught with anxiety for a good half-hour till we found him happily reciting a poem for Fran and John. She was truly a person who lived her creed and welcomed the stranger. I miss her already.

As her neighbor for over four decades, she was the best neighbor in the world. I so enjoyed her company from a little boy all the way to recent times whenever I'd come home to visit. I have many happy memories of her making cookies and offering me sweets, sometimes too much. During a snowstorm, I found safe refuge in her living room when I wandered across the street to find her generosity in milk and treats. My baffled and worried parents were clueless until they considered my fondness for her; they found me safely in her warm company. As an adult, I began to appreciate her unadvertised and poignant outreach to the elderly and infirm of our town. In our conversation, we'd recount the life of one such deceased neighbor, and she seemed to console me in speaking of our shared loss. I now try to take her own words of comfort and try to cherish them now. She cared so much and loved so much. I know I am not alone in mourning her loss. You are finally with your Lord, Mrs. Elliot. I look forward to sharing in your company again. Bill and Dotty, I will pray for you and your families. Love, John Keane
