Obituary for Elizabeth Hussey (Wyse)

Elizabeth (Betty) Marie Hussey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Brightview Assisted Living in Billerica, MA. Born in East Boston on April 23, 1930, to David and Elizabeth Wyse who came to East Boston from Placentia, Newfoundland, Betty attended Catholic schools where she excelled in English Language Arts. After graduation, she attended Burdett College and after graduating worked as an executive secretary at New England Life in Boston. She married the boy next door (Dick Hussey) and they settled in Watertown, raising their family there. After her children were older, Betty went back to work as an executive secretary at Wausau Insurance in Belmont, a job she truly loved.

Betty was very intelligent; everyone always wanted her on their team for Trivial pursuit. She was also a very talented piano player, having taken lessons at Boston Conservatory when she was younger. Opera was another of Betty’s passions and she and Dick traveled to New York many times to attend opera performances. In her later years, Betty became an avid reader and became very enamored of using her Kindle to read the latest novels.

Being a mother and grandmother were two of the joys of Betty’s life and she was great at it. She loved spending time with her family, babysitting her grandkids when they were younger and getting together for family barbecues. She and Dick would often show up at her children’s homes with homemade chicken soup if one was sick, or Dunkin Donuts and coffee for a morning of good conversation.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Dick. She leaves her children, Kathryn Turmel and her husband Richard, Richard Hussey and his wife Emily, Robert Hussey and his wife Christine, and Lisa Scali and her husband Joseph. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Matthew and his wife Stephanie, Christopher, Samantha, Joseph, John, Ryan, Kayla, Robert, Chloe and Sydney, as well as her great-grandson, Luke. She is predeceased by her sister Marguerite Wyse.
