Obituary for Donald Murray Koffman

Koffman, Donald M.

Passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2021 surrounded by his family at the age of 85.

Don loved his family and will be dearly missed by his wife, Lois, sons David and Mark Koffman, and daughter-in-law Michelle Toder. Grandchildren Lily and Jake Koffman will also dearly miss their "Zadee", He is also survived by his brother Stanley Koffman, sister-in-laws, Bunny Carroll, Joan Garvey, Sandy Dickey, Jan Braga and brother-in-law Dan Braga as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don was born in Boston and graduated high school at 16 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at age 20 and stayed at MIT to get his Ph.D. in metallurgy. Don worked for various companies in the material science industry before retiring from GTE Labs and starting a second career as a database developer, running his own consulting company until the end of 2020. Known fondly as the absent-minded professor by friends and family, he had a passion for lifelong learning and was incredibly generous to share his knowledge to help others. Possessing a dry and witty sense of humor, Don loved joking with the youngsters in his family. He also enjoyed exercise, taking up running in his 40's and continuing to keep himself in great shape throughout his later years.
