Obituary for Chester M Howe

HOWE, Chester Embodiment of the American Dream lived in the American Century Formerly of Concord, MA, Chester Michael Howe died at home in Winchester on September 19, 2021. Born in Strongsville Ohio, he was drafted immediately upon graduation from Strongsville High School in 1945. Thereafter, he graduated from John Carroll University in 1951, and Harvard Law School in 1954. Mr. Howe appeared before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in a number of cases and the United States Supreme Court in one matter. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lorraine Fehlan, his eight children by his first marriage, all of whom received advanced degrees, Mark (Louise), Judy (James), John (Sarah), Sarah (Karl), Ben (Janet), Rachel (Giovanni), Mary, and Peter (Kathryn), and 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His first love and wife, Geraldine Ryan, died in 1984. Known as Chet, Chester, or Papa Chet, he was born the fourth of eight children to Frank Walter Zychowski and Mary Cygan Zychowski. He is survived by his sisters Mary Jurinak and Maggie Zychowski, nieces and nephews on the Zychowski, Blackwell and Jurinak sides and seven stepchildren. He was also predeceased by siblings John, Ben, Jeanette, Frank and Irene. Chester enlisted in the Naval Reserves in 1966 where he served until retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar, and joined Ely Bartlett Brown and Proctor where he became a tax partner and where he remained through various iterations of the firm until he retired. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
