Obituary for Carol McCarthy (Prather)

Carol Ann (Prather) McCarthy

The irrepressible, irreverent, incredible, Carol Prather McCarthy, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 25 th 2022, at Beth Israel hospital in Boston Massachusetts, after a several month battle with multiple myeloma.

As would only be appropriate, Carol entered the world with a ‘bang’ on July 4 th 1934, in Los Angeles California. Her joy and love continued to reverberate among all she encountered, from that day forward. Carol treasured her formative years in California prior to moving to Pittsburgh, PA, where she lived and raised her family with her husband of 55 years, the late Thomas Edward McCarthy. Tom and Carol later moved to Sanibel Florida, where they spent 30 happy years. Carol and Tom also loved spending time outdoors, during many summers, in Waterville Valley New Hampshire. Last March, Carol moved to Massachusetts to be near family.

Carol leaves behind a legacy of love through her children and grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents Seb and Pearl Prather and her husband Dr. Thomas Edward McCarthy. She is loved and remembered by Her son, Thomas Edward McCarthy and his wife Joann of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, daughter, Megan McCarthy Powers and her husband Gerard of Winchester Massachusetts, son Peter James McCarthy and wife Karla of Granville Ohio. Carol adored her five grandchildren: Allison Powers Troupe, and her husband Richard Troupe, Chloe Powers, Brooke Powers, Malcolm McCarthy and Quinn McCarthy.

The world will forever be a little less vibrant and a bit sadder without her quick wit, infectious smile and generous warmth.

Her life will be celebrated at a future date with a private family event. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Intl. Myeloma Foundation - Multiple Myeloma Research https://www.myeloma.org.
