Obituary for Anne J Ockerbloom (Torpey)
Of Winchester, Anne Joan Ockerbloom, passed away peacefully in the home she loved surrounded by her husband of 65 years, Richard (Carl) Ockerbloom and her five surviving children, Peter Ockerbloom of Reading, John Ockerbloom and his wife Amber of Charlotte, NC, Mark Ockerbloom and his wife Marysia of Medfield, Gail Ockerbloom and her husband Jeffrey Selberg of Arlington, Catherine Parker and her husband Jon of Pepperell and her daughter-n-law Marie Ockerbloom of Charleston, SC. She was pre-deceased by her son Carl Ockerbloom of Winchester and is survived by her sister Marie (Sally) Diorio. Loving Nana to fifteen grandchildren Alena, Allison, Alyssa, Ashley, Ava, Bethany, Christine, Jessica, Juliana, Katelyn, Meaghan, Michael, Molly, Olivia, Renee, and Savannah. She was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren and 5 nieces and nephews.
Born in Everett Massachusetts in 1930, Anne graduated from Emmanuel College Class of 1951. She was immensely proud of her father John Torpey who worked in the Everett school system and was an Irish Singer and comedian in Boston as well as her mother Mary, a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital. Throughout her life Anne was grateful for her Everett roots and her Emmanuel wings. Introduced to her husband Dick by an Emmanuel classmate, no one could make Anne smile or laugh like Dick and nothing made Dick prouder than to have Anne by his side.
Throughout Dick’s long career with the Boston Globe Anne traveled extensively with him making friends around the country while building a rich family life back home in Winchester. She and Dick also enjoyed many trips with Anne’s sister Sally and her husband Frank who were their favorite traveling companions throughout the years.
At 61, Anne returned to school earning her master’s in social work from Simmons College. After graduating she spent several years working at McLean Hospital, a division of Massachusetts General Hospital Brigham. She and Dick were active members of St. Eulalia Parish since its inception over 50 years ago.
“Mum” to her boisterous brood of six, each child and grandchild knew the full measure of Anne’s love and cherished their special relationship with her. Anne had a beautiful smile, a wonderful Irish sense of humor, and was loved and beloved by her many friends. She brought joy to us all and will be very sadly missed.
Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) WINCHESTER on Monday, April 19th from 9-11am. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed, please enter through the front door. Due to COVID restrictions a private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Eulalia Church, Winchester at 12pm. The Mass will be live streamed, to view please visit https://www.sainteulalia.org/live-stream. Interment immediately following at Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester and all are welcome to attend.
